Exam & Diagnosis

A dental exam is an important part of your routine care! We check your entire mouth to make sure it is healthy, looking for such things as decay, cracks, wear, broken fillings, and discoloration. As part of every exam, we will also perform a screening for oral cancer, as well as signs of gum disease such as recession, bone loss, or tooth sensitivity.

During the examination, we note any findings in your chart and may even use a variety of digital cameras so we can sit down together and show you on a screen exactly what is going on.

Treatment Coordination

At Hudson Place Dental, we want to ensure that your mouth is as healthy as it can be. However, we understand that sometimes life can get in the way and not all of your treatment can be completed at once. That’s why we like to sit down with our patients so we can come up with a plan together, determining what’s important to you, what needs to be done now, and what can wait until you’re ready. We want to make sure that we work as a team to stay within your timeline as well as within your budget.

Preventative Care

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! It’s much easier to keep teeth healthy when we can prevent problems from occurring in the first place.

Dental Hygiene

The BC Dental Association recommends having a professional cleaning every 6 months to clean out bacteria inside the gums and prevent gum disease. For some patients, we may recommend coming in more often. This is important not just for your dental health, but also overall health as gum disease is linked to your overall health, such as heart and stroke, diabetes, and breast cancer.

An ultrasonic instrument may be used to keep your appointment quick and efficient. Some patients may experience sensitivity during the cleaning. In such cases, we can apply some topical freezing or localized anesthetic in that area to take care of that. Once we get your teeth clean, we can paint a nice coat of varnish over your teeth to protect them from damage and reduce sensitivity. We want to make sure you are as comfortable as can be!

Sealants

Sealants are a great way to prevent cavities, especially in children. Since dental plaque likes getting trapped in the little nooks and crannies of your teeth, we can place a sealant by flowing resin into those grooves, blocking them off and preventing plaque from sticking in the grooves and causing cavities. Sealants are quick to do (usually less than 30 minutes) and don’t require freezing.
